We loved Vieques
We loved EVERYTHING about this wonderful island!
In a last minute attempt to get away during the busy Easter vacation week, we were striking out with every Caribbean island we tried! Somehow, by some stroke of my husband's netsurfing hands, Vieques popped up on the screen, a hotel had availability, flights were secured and we were locked in..like it or not! We had no idea where we were heading...it was all non-refundable,no turning back...how I WISH now that I did not have to turn back and come home! We fell in love, more in love with each other and in love for the first time with this Island! The people are friendly, the island beautiful and not tourist ridden. Can't wait to return!!!!!
Which is your favorite beach in Vieques?: RED BEACH!!! We only got to Green, Blue, and Red...but of those, Red was the best!!! Stunning views, blue water, white sand, fun body surfing during high tide in some areas, yet mostly calm and serene waters. Watch out for burrs in the sand, they get ya. Wear sandals!
Which was your favorite restaurant(s) on the island?: A few! UVA's!!! Fabulous!! Media Luna, Chez Shack, a must try experience dining in the jungle! Bili's in Esperanza...not fabulous, but good...Martineau is a fun host!!! We actually had fabulous meals at our hotel, Martineau Bay Resort, and we are very picky about dining and the quality...we read negative reviews of the hotel restaurant and found none of them to be true. the food and service were fabulous! We have hear that the steak house is alos good, as well as the M Bar restaurant, which we didn't get to! Next time!
Martineau Bay Resort...fabulous...LOVED this place...it is being taken over by W hotels and will close for a period from Sept 06 till?...we hope they don't change too much as it is so wonderful...so romantic, also good for kids, friendly and helpful staff, willing to bend backwards to make everyone happy!!! What a find!!!
Was this your first time in Vieques?: Yes
Would you visit again?: Yes
Any negative experiences on the island?: a few mosquitos...not too bad though, and they love me usually!! Bring spray. Sad to see undernourished wild horses eating out of trash bins closer to the town.
