Vieques Car Rental

I rented a JEEP in Vieques in November of 2009 with my Husband. The JEEP was an older model, 99 I believe. It was good enough to get around in but during the middle of our stay the left rear tire fell off while we were, luckily just turning onto pavement and driving slowly. As well, we were lucky enough to pass a bar where the town seemed to come and help along with the Police Chief Edina. All were very helpful. The police chief saw that one of the lug nuts had been broken off and rusted meaning that tire was missing a lug nut. The owner denied responsibility, of course and slapped us with a $440 bill to our surprise when we got home. At this point we are enlisting the support of the police chief and our credit card is investigating. I, of course, am not renting from Vieques car rental again and urge others not to. It is one thing to take care of your business, it is another to prey on renters.

As you read these comments about Vieques Car Rental, please note that I am the new owner as of late 2010 and intend to operate in only the most honest and fair ways possible. It is important to know that when you rent a car from anyone, you are responsible for all damage regardless of fault. So, scratches mysteriously appearing overnight, coconuts to the windshield, etc. are always the financial responsibility of the renter at any rental car company. In my short time here, it also my observation that when people call to reserve a car, they universally ask for the least expensive option, older cars. We all have newer and even brand new cars, but these naturally rent for more. Finally, Vieques is not a Club Med. It takes a the right attitude to truly enjoy your visit, the ability to appreciate what Vieques has to offer but also what it does not.
