Unaware of needs of western tourist

Overall, the island seems unaware of the needs of the Western tourist. As a bilingual couple with 2 small children, we felt that we were about 5 years too early. Service ranged from surly to supreme. For the price paid, not a great experience.

Was this your first time in Vieques?: Yes
Would you visit again?: Maybe
What is your favorite beach in Vieques? There were so many unbelievable beaches.

AGREED!!!

It would be devastating to see Vieques change I'm a traveler hoping to see every country before I die, but since my trip to Vieques last year I crave nothing more than to return there for all of my years to come. We booked two trips to go back just in 2010. My boyfriend and I went there last year with just backpack each and a 2 man tent we camped on Sunbay Beach and explored the whole island and just couldn't believe there was still a place like this on earth, untouched by corporations and massive resorts, I hate that. This was the first place that I've not seen a MCdonalds (they even had one in Cambodia) If you take your children there it should be to teach them the beauty of our natural world. I hope I don't find people like you on our future visits that would be a great disappointment. I've reffered a few friends there and am starting to wish I hadn't because I don't want to go there someday to find tourists everywhere. We were the only people on every beach we went to, that is amazing.

Open your mind

Foreign places do not exist to cater to western tourists, real people live there. The beauty of traveling the world is to get to know other cultures and ways of life. Hopefully Vieques will never change to accomodate western tourists needs, since then there would be no real reason to visit it. Maybe you should take your children to Disneyworld next time.

if you don't like Vieques the way it is too bad. I hope it stays like it is forever. Untouched and unspoiled by modern ways.
