The Owner of Casa La Lanchita Tried To Swindle me out of $25,000.00

(NY, USA)

The owner rented me a vehicle without a contract and without me asking for the vehicle the vehicle was in poor condition and was six years old when my vehicle got stuck in the sand in green beach he tried to scare into paying him a twenty five hundred dollar deposit or he would get me arrested then when I contacted the office of tourism and got the number of a tow truck and got the car out of the sand the next day he got a crooked mechanic named Louie Leguillou to say there was two hundred dollars worth of damages to the car because it was stuck in the sand luckily I contacted the office of tourism and they gave me the number of a mechanic named Walter and he didn't find anything wrong with the car also another one of his mechanics named Henry a very honest man didn't find anything wrong with it and I got out of the
situation paying just for the tow (only 40 bucks and a tip).

Thanks to Freddy the tow trucker he's an angel but the owner Doug tried to service his decrepit six year old Jeep Cherokee with my hard earned money and that is what my experience was in Casa La Lanchita luckily the people of Isabel II were very helpful and honest.

Overall rating of accommodation: 1 Star (Poor)

Casa La LanSHITa
by: The Guest

Well this one comment is meant to correct the original posting. As the anonimous commentator helped clarify, the owners of "Casa La Crapita" tried to swindle me out of 2,500 not 25,000. That was my mistake but thank you anonimous for helping people understand that since you are a close friend of the owners and you have been briefed personally about the money that the owner tried to swindle out of me then it is undeniable that the owner wanted to charge 2,500 dollars for a flat tire. If that is not trying to swindle somebody then I don't know what is. Secondly the lady called Jill Hunger that left the other comment claims not to know the owner but calls him by his first name and says that people like me should not leave Brooklyn but I do not mention Brooklyn on my posting. She would only know that if she would've been briefed by the owners about where I am from. Thanks Jill you are a fucking idiot and your friend Doug needs to find some smarter friends to be his P.R. People because you two douchbags are dumber than a doorknob. About the incident I can say that there were no signs at all and when I saw a sign I tried to turn around and I got stuck in the sand. The tow truck driver told me that he rescues tourists and locals from that exact spot all the time so it wasn't that uncommon to get stuck there plus if it would've happened earlier I would've gotten the tow truck and changed the flat without the owners knowing but everything closes early in Vieques so I had no choice but to tell the owner. Who by the way had no other guests staying in Casa La Lanchita and there was a Wedding suspended because of the bad weather so he was losing money and he saw my mishap as a way to recover some revenue. If you go to tripadvisor.com you will see other reviews in which they describe the owner as Jekyll and Hide. I only told half of my story but since the owner wants to defend himself through his moronic friends then I would like to know why my clothes got taken out of the dryer or why everytime I left the room I could smell the owners cheap cologne in my room and my belongings were inspected while I was out of the room aswell. Anyways aside from "DOG" the owner and his Bitch of a wife the people of Vieques were wonderful and Vieques is Beautiful. This posting is meant to save any tourist their hard earned money and time. So don't go to "Casa La LanSHITa".

This guy was absolutely nuts.
by: Anonymous

I know the owners of La Lanchita personally, and I happened to be briefed on this situation. This guy rented a jeep from the guest house and decided that he would explore RESTRICTED area on the old N.A.F. base. The area is clearly marked by signs warning drivers not to enter specific locations. So his jeep got stuck, and he called the owners. They came out to the scene themselves to help him out. Name any hotel owner that would not simply refer his guest to a towing company. The $25,000 is an incorrect number. It was actually $2,500 in damage to the car. Please, people like this should not leave Brooklyn.

The guest is the jerk here
by: Jill Hunger

I stayed at Casa La Lanchita, and I absolutely disagree with the guest that wrote the review. I did not need to rent a vehicle from the owner as I brought my own on the cargo ferry.
The history of the Island is that it was used for target practice by the U.S. Government. Portions of the island, therefore, are off limits until the undetonated bombs can be cleared out.
It is obvious that this guest chose to ignore all of the off-limits demarkations, and he proceeded into a place he should not have gone.
He SHOULD HAVE PAID trespassing fines, in addition to reimbursing the owner, for being such a jerk. And then he had the nerve to complain about the owner!!
I live in Wisconsin, do not know the owner, and do not have any reason to defend the owner other than the resentment I feel for the obnoxious guest. Doug is a gracious host--just read the reviews on other websites and you will see what I mean-

Rats in Vieques............ ?
by: Gilberto Negron

The authorities should take note on this incident in case this undesirable behavior repeats , not only by the owner of CASA LA LANCHITA but also across the island.. Across the years our island has acquired a bad, undeserved name away from the island thanks to a small group of ignorant, unscrupulous people in prejudice of us all and this has to stop.
Rats like this one must be stopped in their tracks and make them pay. We decent people of PR deserve better and so the visitors that come here to have a good time and spend their money.
