I know the owners of La Lanchita personally, and I happened to be briefed on this situation. This guy rented a jeep from the guest house and decided that he would explore RESTRICTED area on the old N.A.F. base. The area is clearly marked by signs warning drivers not to enter specific locations. So his jeep got stuck, and he called the owners. They came out to the scene themselves to help him out. Name any hotel owner that would not simply refer his guest to a towing company. The $25,000 is an incorrect number. It was actually $2,500 in damage to the car. Please, people like this should not leave Brooklyn.

The guest is the jerk here by: Jill Hunger
I stayed at Casa La Lanchita, and I absolutely disagree with the guest that wrote the review. I did not need to rent a vehicle from the owner as I brought my own on the cargo ferry.
The history of the Island is that it was used for target practice by the U.S. Government. Portions of the island, therefore, are off limits until the undetonated bombs can be cleared out.
It is obvious that this guest chose to ignore all of the off-limits demarkations, and he proceeded into a place he should not have gone.
He SHOULD HAVE PAID trespassing fines, in addition to reimbursing the owner, for being such a jerk. And then he had the nerve to complain about the owner!!
I live in Wisconsin, do not know the owner, and do not have any reason to defend the owner other than the resentment I feel for the obnoxious guest. Doug is a gracious host--just read the reviews on other websites and you will see what I mean-

Rats in Vieques............ ? by: Gilberto Negron
The authorities should take note on this incident in case this undesirable behavior repeats , not only by the owner of CASA LA LANCHITA but also across the island.. Across the years our island has acquired a bad, undeserved name away from the island thanks to a small group of ignorant, unscrupulous people in prejudice of us all and this has to stop.
Rats like this one must be stopped in their tracks and make them pay. We decent people of PR deserve better and so the visitors that come here to have a good time and spend their money.
