My husband, kids and I absolutely love Punta Arenas Beach. We feel embraced by tropical bliss. Once we get to the beach, we always find a spot just to ourselves, the snorkeling it's really great and we love walking and swimming along the shore. TIP: Explore Punta Arenas Beach in the morning, sand flies come swarming in the afternoon and they are unbearable. Punta Arenas is child friendly, there are many shallow spots with playful schools of colorful fish your kids will enjoy. If you are not an experience snorkeler, it's a good beach since the waters are pretty calm on the Caribbean side of Punta Arenas.
If you don't believe in global warming, you certainly will after seeing how the sea level has risen by this beach. As a little girl I used to go to El Faro Los Morrillos in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico where friends use to camp. There used to be plenty of sandy camp sites and the fishing was incredible. I did not realize until a few years ago that the entire camping area is gone and under water. It's very sad I won't be able to have those experiences with my children. I just hope my children can share the Bioluminescent Bay in Vieques and Lajas with my future grandkids.
If you want a little fun adventure, go on a treasure hunt for the tracks that are now under water. Schools of friendly tropical fish have claimed it as their playground. Our son had tons of fun snorkeling in this area. The one thing he did not enjoy and neither did I were the sand flies that come around in the afternoon. So I highly recommend to get there in the morning and avoid the afternoon. HINT: The scene below is the entrance to the spot. Claim this "parking spot" all to yourself and go find it.

The Northernmost part of Punta Arenas / Green BeachThis sandy point is popular for boaters from the main island of Puerto Rico. The views of the Puerto Rico are amazing and this is one of my favorite places to park my beach chair and marvel.
From the map below you can almost see where the Caribbean Sea and the Altantic Ocean meet. The norther part of the beach is rougher obviously because of the ocean and as you walk down the beach the water keeps getting calmer and clearer, the shades less navy blue and more turquoise. If you like to pay attention to the details of nature, you will enjoy this beach. View Larger Map
Getting to Punta Arenas BeachGetting to Green Beach: To get there, take Route 111. On the way there, make sure you make a short stop by the Old Ceiba Tree and Mosquito Pier with a spectacular scenic view of the coast and lush green flora of the island. After a small tour of the mentioned, turn around and head west again, on your left there is an entrance to "The Bunkers" which is a must see attraction. If you keep going all the way, you will head up to Monte Pirata, the highest peak on the island. If you go all the way, you will have to drive all the way back, so my advise is head to the beach early and after a relaxing and fun time at Punta Arenas, drive by the Bunkers.Pass through the Yellow NWRS gate towards Laguna Kiani, scenic lagoon with mangroves and birds. Driving to Punta Arenas (Green Beach) is half the fun. The flora along the dirt road that leads to Green Beach is lush and very "Green". Drive through lush tropical foliage, tall and leaning palm trees that give you a break from the sun before you arrive to the beach. You will pass
