Playa Esperanza is one of the local's favorite spots on the island for children and families. This beautiful beach is located on the south side of Isla de Vieques on El Malecon (The Strip).

If you are facing the water, to the left you will find the more tranquil bathing beach with sandy bottom and the beautiful Muelle de la Caña (old fisherman's pier) which truly looks like a work of art when you sit right under it.

To the right of the pier you will see colorful boats, the new fisherman's pier, and the silhouette of Monte Pirata the highest peak in Vieques

After a nice lunch of dinner in Esperanza, grab a million dollar view seat on the pier, marvel with the daily colorful show at sunset and take in the beauty that God created for you to enjoy. If there are locals walking around don't be shy and say hello, Viequenses are warm and friendly and they are a great source of information.

Esperanza and Sun Bay Beach are the only beaches in Isla de Vieques that have places to eat and restroom facilities within walking distance. For those that want accommodations where renting a car is an option we recommend you pick lodging in Esperanza.

You can take a long walk on the beach going west which would take you all the way to Playa Grande and pass Playa Negrita (Black Sand Beach) if it's low tide.

The beach on photo below is the oceanfront of Hector's by the Sea - a beautiful property owned by Mary and Hector offering three suites as a vacation rental and west of the main beach in Esperanza.

Vieques was blessed with a variety of magnificent beaches all with it's unique personality.

Going east you can walk around to Sun Bay Beach. In the photo below, the stretch of sand divides Sun Bay (left) from Esperanza Beach.

The beach in Esperanza is my favorite beach to visit on Sundays in La Isla Nena. If you happen to spend a Sunday on the island, I invite you to take some time to visit Esperanza Beach. Come around the old pier in El Malecòn, enjoy the sights and see the island through the eyes of Los Niños de Vieques (the children of Vieques).
