Esperanza Beach / Playa Esperanza
If you are facing the water, to the left you will find the more tranquil bathing beach and the beautiful old pier which truly looks like a work of art when you sit right under it.
To the right side of the pier you will see most of the colorful fisherman's boats, the newer pier, and the magnificent Monte Pirata - which has the highest peak on the island.
During the week come and sit on the pier, say hello to the warm and friendly locals going for their catch of the day. Feel free to practice your spanish, don't be shy, the locals will be happy to teach you a word or two. They are the best source for information on the best places to see on the island.
Esperanza and Sun Bay Beach are the only ones that have places to eat and restroom facilities within walking distance. For those that want accommodations where renting a car is an option we recommend you pick lodging in Esperanza.
The beach on photo below is the oceanfront of Hector's by the Sea - a beautiful property owned by Mary and Hector offering three suites as a vacation rental.
You can practically walk all the way around the south side of the island and head towards La Hueca Beaches which include the stunning Playa Negrita / Black Sand Beach.
The beach in Esperanza is my favorite beach to visit on Sundays in La Isla Nena. If you happen to spend a Sunday on the island, I invite you to take some time to visit Esperanza Beach. Come around the old pier near El Malecòn, enjoy the sights and see the island through the eyes of Los Niños de Vieques (the children of Vieques).
