El Malecòn - "The Strip"

Vieques Island, Puerto Rico

El Malecon - Esperanza, Vieques Island, Puerto Rico

El Malecon is on the town of Esperanza - located on the south side of the island. El Malecon is considered the most "tourist friendly" location on the island since you will find a nice variety of restaurants ranging from casual to fine cuisine with the bonus of a great view of the crystal clear waters surrounding this little piece of paradise on the Caribbean.

Looking left of the Malecòn there is a beautiful beach perfect for snorkeling, bathing, and very kid friendly. Tourists that prefer not to rent a car during their vacation in Vieques choose an accommodation in Esperanza since they can basically walk to great beaches and great restaurants.

You can often find young boys proudly riding their horses along El Malecon.

Vieques is by no means a vacation destination for those that love a busy nightlife, but if you want some evening entertainment and good food, El Malecon is a great place to be.

Wanna dance? Rub shoulders with warm and friendly locals on weekends at La Nana - a local small and simple outdoor dance club located right across from Bananas. La Nasa serves drinks, but locals really go there to have fun, and dance the night away. Tourists are always welcome and  ladies make sure you look for Zauro, undeniably the best dancer on the island and very respectful. Zauro will will be happy to give you some free salsa, and merenge lessons.

If you are shy, then come anyway and watch free and happy locals move to Caribbean rhythms.
