El Malecon is on the town of Esperanza – located on the south side of Isla de Vieques.
El Malecon is the most tourist friendly location on the island where you will find a nice variety of restaurants ranging from casual to fine cuisine with the bonus of a great view of the Caribbean waters with a background of offshore cays and Monte Pirata. Beautiful sunset can be enjoyed from El Malecon.
You can often find local artists selling beautiful unique crafts. Please take a look and support the local artists.
Looking left of the Malecòn there is a beautiful beach perfect for snorkeling, bathing, and very kid friendly. If you prefer not to rent a car during your vacation in Vieques I encourage you to choose an accommodation in Esperanza since you can basically walk to great beaches and great restaurants and you can get access to public transportation easily from Esperanza.
You can often find young boys proudly riding their horses along El Malecon, especially on Sundays.
Vieques is by no means a vacation destination for those that love a busy nightlife, but if you want some evening entertainment and good food, El Malecon is a great place to be.
