Serrano Lopez admires Mr. Hix for building a structure that respects the ecological health of Vieques and allows the natural beauty of the island to shine through.

Departing Hix Island House, I knew how Adam and Eve must have felt when they left the Garden of Eden.

At Hix Island House you become one with your surroundings, your mind is given a chance to relax and dream. Your soul is allowed to rest, and your heart is encouraged to love.

The Hix Island House allows your mind, body and soul to connect with it's surroundings, you can really appreciate the beauty and magic of this small island.

The guest houses of Hix Island House should not be called merely buildings, but works of art. Staying at Hix Island House is like becoming part of a nature inspired artistic masterpiece.

As you drive up to Hix Island House you don't see the buildings, they are perfectly concealed by the landscape. As soon as you walk up to the entrance of the small and welcoming receiving area, you know that you are on your way to a true and special getaway. I was greeted by Christianna Van de Wetering, she and her husband Kurt are the managers of Hix Island House. Thank Kurt and Christianna for the friendly welcome.

Check in was quick, easy and painless. Within minutes we were on the car driving up to the perfect suite awaiting for me. The first thing that I noticed was the tranquility of the property surrounded by tall fruit trees and beautiful flowering plants. No crows of people walking around, no noise, just perfect peace.

I walked up the steps to my suite and when I saw the view, it literally took my breath away, I got goose bumps on my skin and I felt an immediate sense of peace and spirituality. I then understood what the mayor meant by his statement, the only thing that took away from the view were the painted houses scattered across the mountains.

Cristianna gave me a tour of the suite and just when I thought it could not get any better she guided me to "Stairway to the Stars", the closest to heaven on earth. Cristianna left and I just relaxed, gazed at the view and enjoyed the peace and quiet.

I sat down and tried to write this review and these are the words that came to my mind: Peace, God, beauty, serenity, joy, contentment, paradise and heaven. Being at the Hix Island House was a true spiritual and relaxing experience.

The only sounds you could hear were birds singing, the wind blowing solfty across lush green trees, and coquis serenading at night. Hix Island House is a TRUE GETAWAY.

THE SUITE The rooms at Hix Island House are true works of art. My suite, Matisse is one of the most requested suites at Hix Island House for the privacy and breathtaking views. Matisse was simple, yet very tasteful, contemporary, spacious and comfortable. I also found the room to be very romantic, great for honeymooners wanting to spend some true quality time away from everything and everyone. The suite is equipped with a small kitchen, stove, coffee maker, and a mini refrigerator filled with eggs, milk, and breakfast cereal. They provide you with delicious fresh baked bread for your arrival and fresh fruit.

THE GROUNDS have a beautiful timeless quality, plants and trees seem to have been there forever. Beautiful tropical foliage, colorful flowers and fruit plants perfectly surround the buildings and provide privacy. Walking around the gardens will be an uplifting experience on it's own.

THE POOL is magnificent, small, intimate, with great vistas. The pool has a copper patina bottom, which with time has turned into colors that mimic the different shades of blues and greens of the beaches in Vieques giving the pool a very natural look. The pool of Hix Island House has a unique private setting granting an opportunity to relax, read your favorite book and catch the perfect tan.

If you are seeking for a place in which you can find peace and getaway from it all, Hix Island House will provide it. There are no phones, alarms, or noisy crowds of people walking around. Staying at Hix Island House you will experience the true beauty and enchantment of Vieques, Puerto Rico.
