Hector's by the Sea was the first property that I visited on the island. I was really eager to see the place and meet Mary (owner), who was so nice on the telephone when I called to make an appointment to see her place. As soon as I stepped foot on her property, it did not feel like I was walking into a rental facility, it felt as if I was visiting some old friends. Mary was even nicer in person, and gave me a great welcoming greeting and smile.

As we began the little tour of her two acre property she explained to me that she and her husband Hector strive to keep the property much like the place they fell in love with. The grounds are naturally beautiful with green pastures that soften the blue ocean view. The beach is pretty and secluded, and great for a walk in the afternoon. The beach is not great for bathing due to the rocky bottom but not to worry there are great beaches just minutes away.

This property is very family friendly, and would appeal to someone who wants to relax and seeks to experience Vieques in a more homey and casual way. Hector and Mary accomplished their goal, their simplistic way of designing the grounds allows Vieques to shine through. After speaking to Mary and Hector for only about 45 minutes, I can tell you that you will be treated as friends, not as guests. Hector's by the Sea is conveniently located close to Esperanza, where most locals restaurants are located. Mary will give you great tips on places to eat.

The property has 3 suites nicely decorated by Mary and Hector. Rooms are furnished with queen size beds and Caribbean decor details. The suites were very clean, the bathrooms are practical with tile showers, roomy with great closet space. Two of the suites have a kitchenette, sitting area, and they all have great views of the ocean.

The third suite is on a second floor. A little smaller than the other two but provides more privacy. It has rustic high wood beam ceilings, and a cute little bathroom. I found it romantic and perfect just for two. On the evenings you can sit on the balcony and enjoy the great view of the ocean, stare at the bright stars while the coquis serenade you.

Amenities Summary: All rooms have air conditioning, fans, microwaves and a small refrigerator. The suites have a kitchenette.

After a fun day at the beach, get refreshed in the pool, and in the evenings, get ready to relax in the jacuzzi under the stars. The style of the pool and the jacuzzi is simple, again, the Mary and Hector wanted to keep things simple and not take away from the natural beautiful surroundings.

I asked some tourists I met during my stay in Vieques about their experience at Hector's by the Sea. They said that their room was wonderful right next to the ocean, but what stood out was how wonderful and friendly Hector and Mary were.

On my next trip to September I promise to take pictures in order to show you the property. The pictures shown on their listing don't do justice to this nice property.
