Camping Safety Tips

1. Make sure you take enough food, clothing, equipment to keep you comfortable during an emergency situation.

2. Check the weather forecast for Vieques before each night you plan on camping. Be very alert to approaching storms and seek shelter if necessary.

3. Use common sense when camping, Vieques is very safe but there have been some cases of petty theft, so try not to take valuable objects or important documents. If you have to bring valuables, take them with you when you leave the camping site.

3. Bring a first aid kit with you and replace and make sure you replace any missing items and any expired medications.

4. If you need medical attention go to the Centro de Salud de Familia in Isabel Segunda, the emergency department is open 24 hours a day. If you have an emergency use your cell phone or get to a public phone and dial 911.

Protecting the Camping Site & a few Camping Etiquette Tips

The people of Vieques welcome you to discover their beautiful natural resources and they ask that you please help them take care of them so the future generations can enjoy the island as well.

1. Please refrain from throwing trash in the water / beaches. Place trash in designated areas only.

2. Use all natural products and biodegradeable soaps and toothpaste. When disposing of wastewater please do so at least 100 feet away from any natural water sources.

3. Camp only in designated areas and stay out of areas that are blocked.

4. If you carry something in, please make sure you carry it out in order to eliminate litter.

5. Please take care and respect any shrubs, trees, grasses or natural flora in the camping area. Please do not nail the trees, that permanently damages the trees and please do not start fires near any bushes or heavy vegetation area.

6. Clean up after your pets.

7. Many people that love to camp do it to find peace and connect with nature. Please be considerate of others camping in the area by keeping the noise down.

8. Please clean your campsite before leaving so other can enjoy it as well after you leave.
