A real Vieques experience. Very nice!

by Jose Vega
(Austin, Texas)

We arrived at Vieques in the 8pm ferry from Fajardo(way better than having to fight the crowds during the day and not knowing if you'll make it to the ferry or not). We were winging it and hoping to find a place to stay and then rent a car the next day.

Just before leaving Fajardo I called Casa del Parque's number and Maria arranged our rental for the 3 days we were staying in Vieques. She also said Eddie (the owner) would take care of car rental.

Eddie picked us up at the ferry and told us that that we happened to stumble into Vieques on the weekend of Fiestas Patronales and there were no cars available in the whole Island but that he'd figure something out.

The upstairs of the house (the unit available for rent) is confortable for up to 6 people, rustic, no A/C but has a nice breeze even in the hot summer nights (we were there in July).

The next day, Eddie took us in his car to have breakfast in Esperanza and after unsuccessfully getting a rental car he provided one that was all we needed to drive around the island and visit as many beaches as we could.

We had a great time exploring the island and doing our best impression of "secluded beach reviewers". We also took the kayak tour of the bio bay on our last night and this is a MUST if you're in Vieques even for a night.

Eddie will treat you like family and give you pointers on places to go and eat. He may even get you a horse if you feel like riding one. God knows there are plenty of stray horses in the island.

Casa del Parque is a great destination, you won't be disappointed.

Eddie's place was great!
by: Kirk Buhne

We stayed in luxury hotels during most of our Puerto Rican 10 day trip, and then we spent two nights at Eddie's simple jungle home. The place was spotlessly clean and well appointed. We did not use the kitchen or TV but they were available. Even the Jeep that Eddie loaned us was clean, complete with his favorite Reggae tape. The main bedroom was magical with the refreshing breeze flowing through the two walls of windows all night long. Do bring earplugs as the coqui frogs (and roosters) can be noisy. Eddie's two little outdoor dogs were sweet and well mannered, always eager to greet us when we came home or woke up. The porch hammock is delightful. The brakes on the Jeep stopped quicker than they should but at maximum island speeds of 35 mph, this was not a problem. Eddie sells BBQ chicken dinners from a stall in Esperanza on weekends - the best deal on dinner on the island.
