Virtual Drive around the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico

On this guide I have added "Driving around the island" as an attraction. Hop on, and allow me to tell you why. Driving around the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico is a relaxing and adventurous experience. It will bring pleasure to all of your senses.

As I began to drive I felt mesmerized, my eyes softly gazed at the beauty of the lush green flora surrounding me and serving as a perfect contrast to the blue horizon that seems to pull me gently towards it.

It never failed, no matter which road I took, or what beach I went to, it was just pure perfection, perfectly blue, perfectly clean,

perfect clear waters, perfect solitude, perfect peace.

My favorite time to drive in Vieques is during the mornings. The roads are adorned with colorful flowers that had just flourished with the morning sun. My destination; exploring places with endless beauty.

My soul is uplifted and inspired with love as I passed the colorful flaming red flowers of the Great Flamboyàn.

My lungs are filled with the fresh air that is softly scented with the sweet aroma of white jasmines, and ripe mangos. My skin is sweetly caressed by the cool crisp breeze of the ocean that invites trees on the hills and palms along the coast to dance.

I make quick pauses along the roads to reply to gorgeous, elegant horses, that lift their heads to say hello. Hundreds of horses roam free around the island serving as friendly hosts and guards of the island. I giggled and smile at the goats that cross the streets with their fellow friends looking for a shaded place to take an afternoon siesta.

I take a little break from the excitement and I make one of my favorite stops while on the island, "Coco Frio", (Cold, coconut water) to satisfy my thirst. Usually I will go into town for lunch at a local "panaderia", to get a warm delicious sandwich, made on fresh "pan de agua" (traditional fresh warm bread). Don't leave the island without going to a panaderia, great food, great coffee, great desserts, and great prices. With a happy belly, I take a drive around the "pueblo" (town) of Isabel Segunda.

As I drive through town, I end up in roads where locals sit on their "balcon" (house porch), viequenses tend to wave their hands, and give you a smile that says "Hola, Bienvenido a Vieques", (hello, welcome to Vieques).

"Stop, get out of your car, and speak to the locals, they are very happy to speak to you, and they will give you great tips on exploring the island. They also have awesome views by their house. You will find more great views on some no outlet roads in town."

In Isabel Segunda, you will find a charming town, with happy residents that will go out of their way, to provide you information or help you in any way they can. You will find colorful buildings, beautiful doorways, and steps. You will even find beauty in a cemetery with the contrasting bold color of white crosses against a blue ocean and sky.

Towards the afternoon I drive back towards the more secluded beaches where you can claim a spot your own for the day. I see families just happy to be together, sharing their beauty within and around them.

I let my hair down and just keep on cruising through dirt winding roads, that lead me towards a stunning blue horizon.

After an adventurous drive, I find a place that seems undiscovered and waiting just for me, I find MY PERFECT SPOT.
No matter where, or what road you take, you will find that driving in Vieques is a fulfilling, relaxing, and fun adventure all on its own.

If you are a traveler that likes to go to a place and sit on the beach or hotel pool and be served piña coladas, don't come to Vieques. The real attractions in Vieques are off the properties and begin on the road. Click here for transportation rental services in Vieques.
