Getting to Vieques by FerryImportant Note: Currently there are many issues with the ferry. Unless you have to take the ferry due to budget reasons, we suggest you fly to Vieques either from San Juan which is the most convenient or you may take a shorter and cheaper flight from the Ceiba Airport. Those that had planned on taking the last ferries of the day are at the most risk if you are traveling to Vieques. You can take the chance of trying to get the ferry at the time you had planned, if it does not work out you can always drive to the airport and get a flight (however, you will not have guarantees that you can get a flight over). We'll keep you posted. The Fajardo Puerto Rican Port Authority 400 passenger ferries run between the town of Fajardo and Vieques several times a day. The ride generally takes about one hour and 15 minutes. The car ferry takes about two hours. The time may vary upon the boat you board and the weather conditions. - Saturdays - The cargo ferry on Saturdays will only offer a round trip ticket which departs at 6:00am from Vieques and returns to Vieques from Fajardo at 4:30pm
- Note that the cargo ferry does not run on Sundays or on holidays.

Frequently asked questions about the ferry service to Vieques
- Can we rent a car in Puerto Rico and bring it to Vieques on the ferry? If you have a rental car in Puerto Rico, check with the car rental company, most car rental agencies will not allow you to take the car off the main island of Puerto Rico.
